Nestled in the heart of Kyoto’s scenic Sakyo Ward, Kazenone stands as a hidden gem that captures the essence of local flavor and warm hospitality. This charming café is not just a place to grab a bite; it embodies a community ethos where every visit feels like a personal invitation to a friend’s home.

Upon stepping inside, you’re greeted by the soothing textures of a cozy interior adorned with vinyl records that enhance the café's inviting atmosphere. This unique spot is a haven for those seeking a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The ambiance is serenaded by carefully curated music, allowing patrons to immerse themselves fully while enjoying their meals.

Kazenone offers an ever-changing menu that showcases local ingredients and traditional Japanese cuisine. Each day, a different chef takes the helm in the kitchen, presenting a complete lunch meal that surprises with its variety and authenticity. A recent customer, Teedah Dunne, captured the essence of this café perfectly when she shared her experience with Daisuke, the generous host whose warmth and enthusiasm are palpable. Visitors are often treated to exquisite sake paired with delightful seasonal dishes that reflect Japan’s culinary artistry.

Imagine savoring a Japanese vegetarian menu crafted from fresh, local produce—each bite more comforting than the last, leaving you with the taste of home. César Lagarde attests to this, raving about the homemade plum liquor that is simply “marvelous.” The attention to detail and quality ingredients not only make every meal enjoyable but also resonate with the essence of Kyoto’s culinary traditions.

Diners like Dennis G and Nikos Skarentzos have highlighted Kazenone as a “very local, quiet, and charming place.” It’s here that you can expect not only great food but also incredible service—one that makes you feel valued and appreciated as a guest. This café is more than a meal; it’s an experience enriched by the dialogue between the staff and patrons, a place to forge connections over shared plates and good sake.

If you find yourself in Kyoto, make it a point to visit Kazenone. Whether you’re seeking solace with a good book, enjoying a leisurely meal with friends, or wanting to taste the local flavors in a setting that feels like home, this café promises to deliver a slice of Kyoto that you won’t soon forget.

Very local, quiet and charming place. The concept of this restaurant is this: Every day, a different person is cooking a complete lunch meal. We were lucky enough to get a lovely Japanese vegetarian menu, made from local goods.

Small bar/restaurant that serves great food. Owner is very warm and helpful, we had very delicious dinners there in reasonable price. Great service also. Don't miss it while in Kyoto. Note that the owner has also rooms to rent in the area!

A place you will definitely love. It is situated on a quiet lane, 1 minute from the Demachiyanagi Station. You will find a genuinely welcoming atmosphere, an excellent cup of tea or coffee, and homemade sweets. Even if you come alone, the feeling is of a friendly place. The staff will make you feel "at home". They also speak English. Recommending!
